Solo Exhibition: Zhu Rui's landscape in heart

Artist¡¯s statement

I try to express my own ideas and pursuits in my freehand landscape paintings, combining painting techniques with human spirit and taking inspiration from many sources, including abstract art, Post-Impressionism and German Expressionism. It is a difficult process of exploration, taking me far from traditional landscape painting, but I always ground my works in nature. I prefer to create from the scenes I am familiar with, those of the Yunnan province in China. They provide me with a wealth of spiritual and emotional strength. I am inspired by Chinese calligraphy and ink painting, and these art forms influence my works in features such as lines and shading. Gradually, as I work on a piece, I achieve the unity between the form and the spirit, to express the authentic language of my inner world.
